Charles Dickens described Chigwell
as "the greatest place on earth" and
used the King's Head pub as a model
for The Maypole in his novel Barnaby
Rudge. Chigwell stands on the route
of a Roman road that went from
London to Dunmow in Essex. The local
schools are Chigwell Community Primary
School, Chigwell Row Primary School and
Limes Farm Infant and Junior School.
